Diljit Dosanjh named the village Kalan: Famous Punjabi singer Diljit Dosanjh’s Dosanjh Kalan village is a victim of neglect by its own young generation these days. Every second house in the village has a locked door. This problem is not limited to just a few houses, but the entire village is facing the same situation. From east to west, north to south, Dosanjh village is facing a shortage of population. The people of the village have locked the best houses and left.
Regarding the indifference of the people towards the village, some elders believe that the village will be empty in a few days. When the IANS team reached the village to know the reason and talked to the people, the truth came out.
Why is Diljit Dosanjh’s village getting empty?
Diljit Dosanjh’s cousin Jaswinder Singh said, ‘For the last several years, people of Dosanjh Kalan village have settled abroad, due to which half the village has become empty. Even before Diljit Dosanjh became a singer, the village was becoming empty due to people settling abroad. The practice of going abroad has been going on in the village for the last several years. Now every youth and child of every house in the village has settled abroad. Because of this, I think that in the coming time, this village will become completely empty.’
He further said, “If the government had provided employment to the villagers in the country itself, then perhaps people would have reduced going abroad. This has not happened. The situation is the same in the entire state. People are going abroad and settling down. In such a situation, a day will come when people from villages and cities will go abroad and settle down and the villages will become completely empty.”
Usha, a woman from the village, says, “More than half of the people from the village have started living abroad. People are not getting any employment and business in Punjab. Due to this, people here are moving abroad. Almost all the houses in the village are locked and the new generation has gone abroad with their parents.”
Gurmeet Singh says, “The government says a lot to stop migration from the state, but nothing happens. Due to lack of jobs or work here, people are going abroad to work. After this, they settle there.
